Shippensburg University began in 1871 as the Cumberland Valley State Normal School. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania purchased the school in 1917. In 1927, the school became the State Teachers College at Shippensburg. The college was renamed Shippensburg State College in 1960, and in 1983, it became Shippensburg Universiy of Pennsylvania.
This sign is south of the main entrance to the campus - at the NE corner of the intersection of Prince & King Streets.
