Smoky was a four-pound Yorkshire Terrier that transported communication cable through a drainage pipe under an airfield in World War II. She is credited with protecting 40 planes by her actions. Following the war, she 'retired' to the Cleveland area and spent time as a therapy dog.
This memorial area in the Rocky River Reservation of Cleveland Metroparks honors all dogs that have served the military in times of need. A display honors dogs with names like Stubby, York, Nemo, and Chips, but none are displayed as prominently as Smoky who gets her own likeness in a statue recreating a news photo of her nestled in a GI's helmet.
Breed: Yorkshire Terrior
 Date Built: 2005/11/11
