St. Stephen's is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The church construction was started in 1889 and finished in 1890. The first record of an Episcopal presence in Olean dates back to 1829 with a 'Church" consisting of 5 members. By the next year efforts to build an actual church were started. St. Stephen's was formed that year. In 1839 a church building was finally funded and constructed to house the congregation.
The new church was started in 1888 and completed in 1890, consecrated on June 17th of that year. The church is still in use today.
