The plaque for the statue reads:

Rev. Dr. King was not only a civil rights reform activist, he stood for equality among all peoples. His dream for the equal rights of all mankind has left our society a better place for all people.

His dream lives on even after his assassination April 4, 1968.

This statue was originally dedicated January 16, 1989 and was re-dedicated September 18, 1993 at this location known as Freedom Corner.

The statue was sculpted by Geraldine McCullough in 1988 and the statue has been installed in three different locations since then.
