The airport was originally built during World War II to facilitate pilot training. After the war, the property was deemed surplus and subsequently given to the city of Lake City.

Known as the “Aviation Gateway to Florida”, Lake City Municipal Airport covers an area of 1,250 acres which contains two asphalt paved runways. Taken from wikipedia.
