Mt. Tzouhalem from the southeast end. This is the scenic route for hikers who like a good steep workout. It will take up to 1 1/2 hours (one way) to the tree waypoint that is required to log the find, about another half hour if you choose to carry on to the mountain summit for lunch, and an additional half hour to go all the way along the ridge to the cross at the other end.

TO LOG THIS WAYMARK you need to pass by the two big boulders and hike at least up to N 48 46.051 W 123 36.629. See the two required photos in the Quick Description.

PARK AT THE END OF KHENIPSEN ROAD on Cowichan Bay. (Unless you're already in Maple Bay, this will save many kms of driving.) Take "THE BUMPY ROAD" with a cable across it (see 2nd-uploaded photo - Trailhead - in the Waymark Gallery) - even though it looks at first glance like a driveway (862), once you get going it becomes obvious you're on a road. Soon you will get to a second cable, take the upper choice that looks more like a trail. Shortly before you would reach Genoa Bay (a side trip coffee stop on your return?), there is a trail sign for the turn-off to head up the mountain.

You can also park at Genoa Bay if you are able to find the trail from there. This would cut about 20(?) min each way off the hiking time.

This waymark was posted as part of the 4th Vancouver Island Hide-and-Go-Cache Bash with a "4" theme - our 4th year participating, the required photos are more than 400 meters from the parking location, it's the 4th-known access to Mt. Tzouhalem, and if you choose to climb the tree the terrain rating is definitely a 4.
