According to the NRHP archive: The Partridge/Sheldon House at 70 is architecturally significant as an intact representative example of nineteenth century high style, domestic architecture in Jamestown, Chautauqua County, New York. Built between ca. 1850 and ca. 1867 and substantially renovated and enlarged in ca. 1880, the prevailing characteristics of the present house reflects the influences of the Second Empire and Classical Revival styles, popular during the late nineteenth century and early twentieth centuries, respectively. The three-story Second Empire style building features a distinguished Mansard roof with patterned and polychromed slate, decorative eave brackets, and an imposing Mansard-roofed front porch with ornamental iron cresting. The full-height monumental porticos on the north and east sides of the house are Classical Revival in inspiration and feature lonic columns. Interior details are highly distinctive and include original hardwood finishes throughout, balustrades, paneled doors framed by hardwood fluted molding characterized by wooden keystone, dentril brackets and corner blocks, parquet floors, mantels and decorative ceilings. All architectural elements and embellishments are original to the period. The building is also historically significant for its association with Porter Sheldon, one of Jamestown's most prominent citizens, renowned for his involvement in law and politics and as the founder of the American Aristotype Company of Jamestown. The American Aristotype Company was the first major producer of impoved photographic paper in the United States. George Eastman later purchased this company and the techology used for the Eastman Kodak Company of Rochester, New York.
