The Roland M. Filhiol House (1895) is a one-and-one-half story frame Queen
Anne Revival style cottage with extensive Eastlake decoration on both its
exterior and interior surfaces. Located within the Ouachita Parish city of
Monroe, the home stands near Interstate 20 in an older mixed use residential and
commercial neighborhood....
The house was built in 1895 for Roland M. Filhiol, the great-grandson of
Don Juan Filhiol, the commander of the soldiers who built Fort Miro and thus
founded the City of Monroe. Roland Filhiol was a successful agriculturist and
businessman who owned several plantations and participated in a variety of other
businesses. He sold the home three years before his death in 1906. In 1918 the
dwelling was purchased by the Edward M. Strong family, who owned it until 1948.
