Gen. J.E.B. Stuart's rear guard established artillery positions on the western ridge overlooking Goose Creek to cut off Union cavalry on June 21, 1863. When Union troops arrived, Moorman and Hart's batteries engaged New York calvary. Kilpatrick and Vincent established batteries on the eastern ridge to engage the Confederate forces. After a few short hours, Union infantry was able to rush the western ridge and repel Confederate forces with support from the cavalry units crossing the bridge.

Driving Directions:
The entrance to the bridge's viewpoint is easily accessed from Route 50 just west of the current Goose Creek crossing, north of Route 50. There is a sign clearly marking the turn for west bound traffic.
