This is the first post office location in the city of Bradenton, Fl. Bradenton originally spelled "
Bradentown" was misspelled "
Braidentown" on May 9, 1878, when the city sent the name to Washington. It was named after Dr. Joseph Braden who built Ft. Braden. In 1905 it was officially corrected to Bradentown. On December 1, 1924 it was changed again to it's current spelling
Bradenton. Giving the city three different spellings throughout it's history.
The original post office was located in a general store. The post master was Major William Turner, also the owner.
