Long Description:The church is a tangible reminder of the presence and contribution
of our denomination to the Mandarin and Loretto area for over a
century. It served the spiritual needs of the community during the
period when the general Mandarin area was an isolated farming
community, and economic and educational opportunities were very
limited for most residents. It is one of the few remaining
nineteenth century structures from this period.
The church reflects the folk or cracker building tradition that
evolved in the lower South during the 19th Century. The simple
frame church was constructed of milled lumber probably produced
locally. It was constructed with light balloon or braced framing
covered by wood sheathing. Structures of this period also reflected
the use of currently rare building materials such as superior old
growth pines.
Mass is held Monday - Thursday, 8:00 AM and is a popular site
for hosting weddings, baptisms, funerals, and other special
services and meetings.
