This sculpture consists of a male figure bent over with his right leg forward, holding a dog by its collar in his right hand. He carries a bow and single arrow in his left hand. The plaque on the base reads: "The Indian Hunter by John Q. A. Ward presented to the City of Buffalo by Ella Spencer Darr in memory of her husband Marcus M. Darr."

A bronze replacement piece for the rear section of the arrow was cast by Modern Art Foundry of New York. Additional replacement pieces for the bow and arrow were cast by PCM Foundry of St. Louis, MO. A replica of this statue is located in Cooperstown, NY. Models by the artist can be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art.
