This statue of Printer, Philosopher, Patriot, and Philanthropist Benjamin Franklin stands on a pedestal in front of the Old Post Office Pavilion on the corner of 12th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. The statue was sculpted in 1889 by Jacques Jouvenal. Franklin's statue was placed in front of the Old Post Office building because he was also a postmaster, appointed by King George III before the Revolutionary War.
