Warton was the birth place to one of George Washington's ancestors and the pub is named after GW. They fly the stars & stripes on July 4th.
Warton has a long and ancient history and was the centre of the local area until it was overtaken in size and importance when the railways came to Carnforth 2 miles away. Limestone was the big export of the area and a large old quarry scars Warton Crag behind the village.
Geographically the village sits on the edge of the boggy ground of the River Keer valley and Morecambe Bay. It used to be on the main route north. As well as the railway, now the M6 motorway also bypasses the village.
The school has been replaced by a new one in the village, with secondary education taking place in Carnforth. Across the road from this school is an old infants school, which is also a private house.
