A stones throw from Dalton Castle is St. Mary's church,which was built between 1883 and 1885 on a site where it is believed there have been churches since the eighth century ,the present church was designed by Paley and Austen,and is one of their most spectacular buildings,built of red sandstone of 14th. century gothic style,the font is 14th century.
The ancient glass depicting saints in the North porch is believed to be from the ancient church of 1320-1360,all other stained glass in the church is Victorian.
There is a churchyard cemetery to the rear of the church which also contains a small garden and plaque which commemorates the 630 victims of the Bubonic plague which struck Dalton in 1631
