Roger (pronounced HAW-jur) Machado operates this Pasadena satellite of the Machado Jiu-Jitsu schools, which grew out of their original academy in South Bay. Brazilian jiu-jitsu is the grappling oriented martial art that made waves in the early 1990s when his cousin, Royce Gracie, demonstrated the usefulness of knowing how to not only grapple, but to also finish an opponent with a surprising choke or a very painful arm/leg lock. Roger distinguishes himself from the competition with his humility and focus on safety and respect between the students.
