Built between 1973 and 1975 and made out of concrete. The tower contains transmission facilities for UHR radio services and omnidirectional radio services. Also you can find a glassed observation deck and a revolving restaurant in a height of 120 metres, which allows a nice view over Mannheim and the surrounding area.
In 1994 a rescue helicopter from the german army collided with the antenna on the top of the tower and fell to the ground. All passengers died. The antenna was damaged partly and also fell down. After tha, a new and higher one was constucted.
