Kaze sushi is in Chicago's Roscoe Village neighborhood. There is no sign on the front door. Just a black awning. The inside is elegant with warm cream hues, not very traditional at all. Fresh orchids line the 10 seat sushi bar and clear long sushi cases display loads of fresh fish. The fish is not pre-cut into individual pieces so there are large hunks of tuna, yellowtail, salmon and other fish lining the case. The unique offering seems to be sushi with toppings. Instead of a piece of tuna on rice, you get tuna topped w/ a shitake mushroom butter sauce or white tuna with a wasabi and banana puree. These were two of my favorites. They had all kinds of strange items on the menu, at least strange for a japanese place. Venison, Duck, Bison, Black Cod w/ some kind of chocolate sauce. Sounds decadent, but i didn't try it. They are only open for dinner. Some items were only available from a chef's choice menu.
