From "The WPA Guide to Florida":
A four-block area with an entrance on Harrison St. between Morgan and Pierce Sts., is enclosed by a brick and concrete wall, and the grounds are shaded by ancient oaks and cedars. During the yellow-fever epidemic in 1873, Tampa citizens died in such numbers that there was no time to dig graves and their bodies were buried in hastily dug trenches, now blank spaces surrounded by gravestones.
This cemetery also contains the graves of mayors, slaves, pirates and confederate soldiers.
