Martin David Robinson is better known as Marty Robbins, who was one of the all time greats in Country Music. He was long time star on the Grand Ole Opry and is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Marty Robbins was one of the most popular country music start of all time. He was born in Glendale, Arizona and served in the United States Navy. Following his military service he began playing an singing country mucic and became very popular in the Phoenix area. His local success brought him his own TV Show. One of his guest was Grand Ole Opry Star Little Jimmy Dickens, and it was Dickens who introduced Marty to Columbia Records and the Grand Ole Opry. During his career Marty had a number of hit songs including “El Paso,” “Devil Woman,” and “My Woman, My Woman, My Wife.” Marty also enjoyed stockcar racing and often qualified for an competed on the NASCAR Winston Cup Circuit, incluing runing in a number of Daytona 500’s.

In 1982, Marty Robbins was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Just a few weeks after his induction, Marty died in Nashville of complications of following heart surgery. Marty and his wife Marizona are buried in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee.

Marty Robbins was born in Glendale, Arizona on September 26, 1925. Marty left home at 17, and served in the United States Navy during World War II. It was during his military service that he learned how to play the guitar and following his discharge he began playing at local night spot in the Phoenix area. He became a popular and soon had his own TV Show on Phoeniz Station KPHO. One of his guest was Grand Ole Opry Star Little Jimmy Dickiens which lead to Marty’s recording contract with Columbia Records. Soon after signing with Columbia, Marty was invite to appear on the Grand Ole Opry where he became one of the shows most popular acts. Marty was often given the last spot on the Opry’s late show because he often ran over his alotted time. During his career Marty had a number of hit songs including, “El Paso,” “Devil Woman,” and “A White Sport Coat an a Pink Carnation.” In 1948 Marty married Marizona Balwin to whom he dedicated one of his most popular song, “My Woman, My Woman, My Wife.” In addition to his country music career Marty has a love for stockcar racing often participating in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series including a number of appearences in the Daytona 500. Whenever Marty’s purple #45 was in a NASCAR event he always got the loudest ovations and was one of NASCAR’s most popular drivers. Marty Robbins was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1982 and just a few weeks later, Marty died on December 8, 1982 of complication following heart surgery. Marty and his wife, Marizona are buried in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee.
