It is a piece of architectural inspiration, built by the Midland Railway across the Welland Valley in 1877-9. It is 1.2km in length with 82 arches.
The railway is still in use today, it carries the twin track non-electrified line between Corby and Manton Junction. The route is generally used for the passage of freight trains and steam train outings, though it is also available as a diversionary route for the Midland Mainline.
The line and structure is a favourite with steam train and heritage enthusiasts, carrying a Grade II Listed Structure status and dominating this picturesque rural valley.
There is a footpath from the eastern side. Follow the path from the stile just before the river bridge. Be careful in times of flood as access to the viaduct will be inaccessible as there are flood meadows underneath.
