At one time this street held the Guinness Book of World Records for the Longest Street in the World. There is some controversy regarding this now, Guinness has removed it from the record books, but Toronto clings to the name. Seems at one time Yonge St was part of a larger system called Highway 11. Due to changes in the way the road system was run, it was disassociated from Highway 11.
However, Torontonians still claim it's all the same road.

There is an inscription on the pier at the end of Yonge St, by Captain John's Restaurant and then a map located on the west side of Dundas Sq in front of the H & M store.
