The monument is an obelisk located in the southwest corner of Olustee Park and at the northeast corner of the intersection of Marion and Orange Streets in downtown Lake City. I've listed the "date installed" as 1/1/1934 based on a benchmark located in the foundation of the monument. However, according to the Waymark Reviewer BruceS, it was probably installed at an earlier date as most Civil War monuments were placed prior to 1934, and survey disks are usually put on something after they have been erected. BruceS estimates that this monument was probably placed between 1910-1915 because after 1917 there were not as many Civil War monuments being placed because more World War I memorials were being placed instead.

Text on the front of the monument reads from top to bottom:

"Officers Commanding"
"Brigadier-General, Joseph Finnegan"
"Lieutenant-Colonel, Charles Hopkins, 1st Battalion"
"Lieutenant-Colonel, Theo Brevard, 2nd Battalion"
"Lieutenant-Colonel, McClellan, 4th Battalion"
"Lieutenant-Colonel, John M. Martin, 6th Battalion"

"This monument erected to perpetuate in loving memory the 151 soldiers of the Confederate Army who lost their lives at the Battle of Olustee and who now lie buried in Oaklawn Cemetery, Lake City, Florida."

"February 20th - Olustee Battle - 1864"

"Bodies lie ten blocks northwest from this monument in Oaklawn Cemetery."
