Driftwood Beach is along the northern end of Jekyll Island, a barrier island on Georgia's southeast coast. It is covered by the remains of many trees, which have been preserved by the salt air and water from the ocean. Some of the remains capture enough water on a falling tide to create tidal pools filled with small sea life. Coastal birds can be seen running amongst the water's edge and the tidal pools, foraging for food. All together, it can create a scene that is both beautiful and eerie at the same time.
The beach has several access points along Beachview Drive; parking is available along the side of the road, with a short walk along well defined trails required to reach the beach. This is a popular spot for walking, bike riding, or just exploring the beach. The tide can get close to the living tree line, which limits the room for sunbathing.
