Description: Howard was born in Peaster, Parker County, TX. He began writing in his teens and continued until he committed suicide. He lived in a time and place where he heard the life stories of people that had been in the Civil War, people who had fought Comanches, people who'd traveled to Texas in covered wagons.
He wrote about everything, over three hundred stories: Westerns, boxing stories, detective stories, oriental stories, sea stories, humor, and he essentially created the sword-and-sorcery fantasy genre.
He died in Cross Plains, TX; committing suicide after being told that his mother would never regain consciousness.
