Some of the best shelling beaches are along the surf and beaches of Sanibel Island, unique in that it lies east and west, different than most islands which lie north and south, this direction allows Sanibel Island to catch abundant sea shells that the Gulf of Mexico brings to its shores. Sanibel Island is world renowned for its shells. People from all over the world come to collect and admire the colorful shells. Lighthouse Beach and Fishing Pier
Turn left on Periwinkle way from Causeway Road. End of road to lighthouse Fishing pier and a boardwalk nature trail winding thru native wetlands. Restrooms are located at all public beach accesses. All have handicap parking.
Fee of $2 per hour on public beaches.
There is a toll fee to get on Sanibel from the mainland. Plenty of good restaurants, hotels and resorts abound in it's white beaches. There are several public beach entry points on the island, but some of the more beautiful beachfronts are within the hotel and resort properties. But certainly enough public access to public beaches. Water tempature are usually mild to warm in the heat of summer.
