The Province of British Columbia was the 6th Province of the Dominion of Canada and joined in 1871. The Crown colony of British Columbia was formed in 1858 and was created when there was concern over all of the Americans flooding through the Crown colony of Vancouver Island on their way to the Klondike Goldrush. The two colonies joined together in 1866 and with the help and guidance of Sir Anthony Musgrave, the Governor of the colony of British Columbia at the time, the deal was struck and, as they say, the rest was history.
