Gaddistown is more of a community than a town or village. It was much larger in days gone by. The church is located deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains of north Georgia located right on the bank of the Taccoa River. This river is located in the edge of a field that was my grandfathers farm, James Martin Gooch. This church also served as a school in the early part of the 20th century, early 1900s. My mother, Vassie Viney Gooch, and her brothers went to school here. They ate their lunches on the big rock in the edge of the river in front of the church. This river is a scenic and recreational river, mostly canoeing. At the churches location it is basically pretty shallow. However, right in front of the big rock there is a small pool of water that is deep enough for baptism’s and my mother and other members of her family on down to uncle’s aunt’s and cousins were baptized here.
The church originally was a Methodist church but got down to only one or two members and they voted to change to Baptist. This was around the turn of the century, 1900.
