Pvt. John Entsminger joined the Virgina Company in 1776, participated in several "skirmishes" and then settled in Meigs County, Ohio. There are varying accounts of his service given below. His grave is located in the Miles Cemetery - Rutland, Ohio.

Born Sept. 25, 157. Was a soldier during the Revolutionay War under Gen. Francis Marion, subsequently Gen. Morgan. Was at the Battle of
of the Cow Pens. At the age of 55, when his country called, he volunteered and served a tour on the N.W. frontier under Gen. E.W. Tupper. Was called to his final account Oct. 10, 1830.
From another document we have this account in response to an inquiry from a Laura Force in 1924:
(Obviously there is an error in his discharge date, being given as te same month and year as his enlistment).

Madam;
I advise you from the papers in the Revolutionay War Pension claim, S. 42708, it appears that John Entsminger (sometimes spelled Hentsminger) enlisted in Botetourt County, Virginia in October 1776 and marched in Captain Givens' Virginia Company to Keeneys Fort in Greenbrier County, Virginia, where he enlisted as a private in Captain William McKee's Virginia Company under General Gibson in the Western Frontier Troops, he was in several skirmishes and was discharged in October 1776.
Later he served three months in Captain Alexander Hanley's Virginia Company and was in a skirmish on Atkins River.
He was allowed pension on his application executed June 25, 1818, while living in Gallia County, Ohio, aged sisty one years and some months.
In 1826 he was living in Meigs County, Ohio and referred to his wife aged sixty eight years, name not stated. There are no further data concerning his family.
