From Missouri - A Guide to the "Show Me" State - St. Louis
section:
The CITY HALL, Twelfth St. Blvd to Thirteenth St. and Market St., to Clark
Ave, is four stories high, replete with gables, dormers, and elaborate towerlet.
City Hall was constructed over a 14 year period from 1890 to 1904. The lengthy
constuction was because no bond was issued for its construction. The building
has four floors and a basement level and has 150 rooms. The exterior of the
first story is Missouri pink granite that contrasts with pink-orange Roman brick
on the upper floors and buff color sandstone trim located in an irregular
pattern around the window openings. The roof is burgundy-red clay tiles.
Twelfth St. Blvd has been renamed Tucker Blvd in the area around City Hall. On
the grounds of City Hall are statues of Pierre Laclede (Founder of St Louis) and
General Ulysses S. Grant. The building continues to serve as City
Hall for the St. Louis.
