George Washington, age 19, sailed from Virginia to Barbados accompanying his ailing (tuberculosis) older half-brother Lawrence, who was seeking the fresh air cure common at the time. The two Washingtons soon rented this complex on the outskirts of Bridgetown. It has been beautifully restored to its 18th-century appearance. Paid admission to the site provides a brief movie (filmed in Williamsburg, Chesapeake Bay, and Barbados) about George's sojourn, a guided tour of the house and grounds, and entry to the musuem.
