This furnace was the first iron furnace west of the Alleghenies. It has been called, "the most impressive and picturesque of the ancient structures of Southwestern Pennsylvania, concealed in a forest or seventy-five years growth, and the scene of many a strange story in the wilds of Barren Run." This furnace lies on the border of Westmoreland and Fayette County. The furnace was blasted in November of 1789.
