L'any 1603 aquesta capella passà a pertànyer al terme municipal de Blanes, amb motiu de l'engrandiment d'aquest fins al riu de la Tordera. Avui es coneix pel nom de l'Antiga perquè és la més vella de la Vila i no pel seu nom d'origen: Santa Maria de la Riera. El capellà encarregat de mantenir-hi el culte, que era l'organista de la parròquia, hi ensenyava música.
