The Person
The San Jose Convention Center is named after Tom McEnry, former mayor of San Jose from 1983-1990.
According to Wikipedia, McEnry also "attended Santa Clara University, graduating with a B.A. in 1967 and an M.A. in 1970. After his term in office, he served on the Board of Directors of the San Jose Sharks hockey team and continued to pursue his writing career. He currently writes a weekly blog for San Jose Inside, a website devoted to the culture and politics of San Jose. McEnery is also an owner and member of the board of directors for San Jose Sports & Entertainment Enterprises, which owns the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. San Jose's McEnery Convention Center is named in his honor."

The San Jose McEnery Convention Center is located in Downtown San Jose, four miles south of San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC). It is surrounded by hotels, restaurants, performing arts facilities, nightlife, museums and cultural attractions.
The San Jose McEnery Convention Center provides more than 425,000 square feet of space for conventions and events. Its flexible configuration offers 143,000 square feet of divisible, column-free prime exhibit space, a large ballroom, up to 30 meeting rooms with up to 2,400 theater-style seats and banquet facilities for up to 5,000 persons. In addition, the Convention Center has 30-foot-high finished ceilings, 12 loading bays with drive-on access to the exhibit hall floors, recessed utility boxes with electricity, water and drainage capabilities, complete audio-visual, sound and lighting services, cellular, standard and ISDN telephony services and fiber optic and copper cabling throughout the facility with DS-3 high-speed Internet acces
