A prominate fixture on the John Oughton estate property is the 5-story windmill. The eight-sided, steel-framed windmill was built in 1896 to help pump water for the Oughton estate, which included the buildings that now house Country Mansion Restaurant and the Dwight Public Library.
The windmill no longer is connected to a well.
The estate, including the windmill, was listed on the US National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
