Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens (originally Forest Lawn Memorial Park) was founded by the Miller and Morrison families in 1928. The first burial -- December 15, 1928 -- was Lily Blue, who died in the Franklin County Home with no known relatives. The Forest Lawn Memorial Park Association and Rutherford Funeral Home donated their services to provide Lily a decent burial.
The cemetery covers approximately 100 acres and contains nearly 22,000 burials. It is still active. There are several mausoleums on the grounds.
The cemetery closes at dusk. The office is open most days until 5:00pm.
