The first locomotives type S 3/6 were delivered by the Munich locomotive builders Maffei on 16 July 1908 to the Bavarian railways. It is probably the best known passenger locomotive of the "Deutsche Länderbahnen" (German State Railways).

This locomotive is on display at the Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum. It hauled famous trains such as the Rheingoldexpress and was in operation until 1957. It had a top speed of 120 km/h.
