This site was also where William Holmes McGuffey, famous for his eclectic readers which introduced thousands of children to the treasures of literature, taught from 1823 to 1826 before joining the faculty of Miami University.

The building sits on the corner across from the Bourbon County Courthouse and Duncan Tavern.

The plaque on the building reads:

"This building is dedicated to the men of Bourbon County who served their country during the World War 1917-1918.

Sacred to the memory of those who died for liberty, justice and peace.
