Saltwater State Park was created in 1926 and is located on the Puget Sound exactly halfway between Seattle and Tacoma. It features camping, trails, picnicking and of course a nice sandy beach.
Because of its location within an urban area it stays very busy and if you plan on camping be sure to make reservations several months in advance.
An interesting bit of trivia: because of the park's location exactly between Seattle and Tacoma there was a symbolic effort towards peace between the battling cities during the dedication ceremony in 1926. Apparently a hatchet was buried under a rock somewhere in the park.
