The sign reads
NORTHAMPTON BREWERY Co FINE ALES & STOUT
and is advertising the brews available from the now defunct Northampton Brewery Co Ltd, Phoenix Brewery, Bridge Street, Northampton, UK. The Northampton Brewery merged with P Phipps Brewery in 1957, between them they owned 1,171 pubs. Watney’s bought out the partnership in 1960 and demolished both breweries in 1974, selling the entire site to Carlsberg. (

This has been a public house, changing its name with different owners. In the past a workhouse existed nearby with Union in its name referring to the union of parishes which used the workhouse. To disassociate from the perceived workhouse connection, it was previously called "The Six Packs".
The ‘Union’ referred to is the ‘Leicestershire & Northamptonshire Union Canal’. The Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Union Canal opened from Leicester to Market Harborough on October 13, 1809.
This area at the end of the canal was redeveloped recently, and public house has reverted to its original name.
Perhaps visitors could add photos of the other faded signs.
