The following text is from "Washington: A Guide to the Evergreen State":
JOB CARR'S CABIN, opposite the athletic field on Five Mile Drive, is a reconstruction of the first house built by white men in Tacoma. This unpretentious log cabin was the post office and social center of the settlement.
Seeing as the original cabing was located in the Old Town area, the first site of Tacoma, this new location for the cabin is more fitting than next to an athletic field, its location in 1941 when the book was published. The cabin is now a museum which is open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 1-4 p.m.
