The Keweenaw Rocket Range was a joint Air Force and NASA operated base for launching sounding rockets between 1962 and 1971. The nearby 665th Radar Base(now abandoned) and Minnesota Air Traffic Controllers were responsible for keeping the air space clear when testing. Missed out on this when I was stationed at the 665th in 1971 wasn't aware this place existed.

The place is remote . Where US 41 ends continue about 4 1/4 miles on logging road then go left near N47 25.960 W87 45.822. Continue 2 miles to a fork near N47 25.770 W87 43.438. Take the left branch. The monument is 0.4 miles down a section of road that can be narrow. If you don't want to add trail striping to your vehicle park and walk the remainder of the way. Another option is to mountain bike to this site. Private citizens paid for this monument. For more information and photo's from when the site was active go to (visit link)
