Constructed at a cost of $4 million, this theatre opened on October 26, 1921. The Grand Lobby is 5 stories high. The theatre has a 3,600-seat auditorium that is seven stories high.
The vertical sign outside is one of few such signs in existence today. The sign and marquee are landmarks in themselves.
In 1985, the theatre closed due to sagging business. In 1986, the Chicago Theatre Restoration Association bought and restored the theatre at a cost of several million dollars. Today it hosts live entertainment.
