A wonderful piece of abstract - yet useful - art.
What appears to be a humungous piece of flex aluminum pipe with an open hand reaching out of the top is actually a water collector-turned fountain.
Water runs from the roof of this downtown building into gutters where it is funneled through a pipe down the side of the building and into the collector via a huge index finger. Once the water level rises in the collector it overflows into and off of the 'thumb' and down to a tiered fountain below.
One of two pieces of functional art within a few blocks of each other on and near 1st Avenue in the Belltown neighborhood of Seattle. I applaud whoever is responsible for these marvelous creations!
