This time capsule was placed in 1976, in celebration of the 200th birthday of the United States, to be opened on March 21, 2076, during the country's tricentennial year. It was constructed and filled by the citizens of Clay County, using bricks dating from the early 1900's that were reclaimed from the streets of Green Cove Springs, the county seat. Items sealed inside the capsule's thirteen cubic feet of space include those to represent the peoples' thoughts and achievements, whether wise or foolish, so future generations might have an accurate picture of the area 100 years earlier.
