Tabacón Grand Spa & Thermal Resort is 150 kilometers from San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital, on the road that connects La Fortuna to Lake Arenal, in the country’s northern zone.
Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica has bestowed the fringe benefit of several naturally heated thermal springs on the area around it. Located at the site of the former village that was destroyed by a 1968 eruption, Tabacon Hot Springs Spa & Thermal Resort is a beautiful and relaxing place to go to relax. A series of variously sized pools, fed by natural springs, are spread out among lush gardens. One of the stronger streams flows over a sculpted waterfall, with a rock ledge underneath that provides a great spot to sit and receive a hydraulic shoulder and neck massage.
Tabacón Resort’s hot springs are 97% rain-based and 3% magma-based. Rainwater enters the earth through fissures on the surface and is then heated by magma found in the earth’s core. Once heated, the waters rise to surface, taking with them minerals found in the earth’s rocky stratus. Thus, the resort’s waters are loaded with minerals.
This Resort was the last stop on our week-long vacation to Costa Rica and it was a perfect ending to a wonderful vacation. After the stress of driving in some parts of Costa Rica, a nice relaxing 2-day visit to Tabacón was an amazing way to unwind. We highly recommend it.
