Graduate of West Point, resigned from U.S. Army to volunteer services to the State of Alabama.

Ably led Confederate forces at Manassas, Pensacola, Vicksburg, Mobile, Texas.

John Horace Forney, Major General, Born August 12, 1829 at Lincolnton NC. His brother was General William Henry Forney. He was wounded at Dranesville and captured at Vicksburg. He died September 13, 1902 at Jacksonville AL and is buried at the City Cemetery, Jacksonville, AL.
