Originally built as a small manor house and fortunately was saved from demolition in the late 1800's. When a Post Office was required at the introduction of the Penny Post of Sir Rowland Hill and letters
were being written more and more, a room was rented as a Letter Receiving Office in this property, from 1844. In 1892 the owner wanted to sell and the Post Office moved across the road. Finally the old house became derelict, was auctioned and finally purchased by the National Trust.
