Long Description:
Gilbert Stuart was a painter and was most famous for his "Unfinished Portrait" of George Washington. A grave stone has been placed in the Old South (now Central) Burial Ground on Boston Common, in easy view from a path that runs along the cemetary fence. It was placed by the Paint and Clay Club in 1897 (but it looks much newer than that).
Description:
Information has been taken from the Wikipedia site (link below):

Gilbert Stuart was a born in Saunderstown, RI, on December 3, 1755.

Throughout his life, he painted portraits of over 1,000 people, including six U.S. Presidents. The most famous portrait was one of George Washington, also called the "Unfinished Portrait". Other people he painted included: Abigal, John, and John Quincy Adams; King George III of Great Britain, King Louis XVI of France, James Munroe, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and Martha Washington.

Stuart died on July 9, 1828 in Boston. He left his family in debt, so they could not afford a proper grave. They purchased one from a local carpenter and buried him with the grave unmarked. When they came out of debt, they intended to move the body back to Rhode Island, but they couldn't remember where the exact site was, so they left him in place. Thus, the grave stone is likely not exactly where Gilbert Stuart is actually located.
