In this nicely landscaped park you can find a plaque telling the origins of McAllen. In the center of the park is a gazebo. The concrete pillars holding up the roof, and the concrete steps leading up to the gazebo, were cast to look like trees. The basement of the gazebo, now holding restrooms, was home to McAllen’s public library for thirteen years. Directly across from Casas de las Palmas is the International Friendship Fountain.
